More than 100 animals saved from Hurricane Ida are headed to Virginia and Canada to find new homes.

The Humane Society of Tulsa rescued the animals from shelters in Louisiana Saturday.

The effort allows those shelters to be available to take in pets displaced because of the storm.

“Not all rescues have a team that can go out and do disaster relief, so I think that’s something really special about the Humane Society of Tulsa, and it’s all done through community support as well,” Jessica Derr with the Tulsa Humane Society said.

Those with the Humane Society will be heading back to Louisiana later this week to rescue more animals.
