Another hot day is ahead of us before another cold front moves across the state tonight. This brings scattered thunderstorm chances for a short window of opportunity, mostly across southeastern Kansas and northern OK, but also brings some better news for morning lows for the rest of the week. Unfortunately, more hot weather is anticipated later this week into part of the weekend with some locations reaching near 100.
A cold front will move across southeastern Kansas this afternoon and through northeastern OK early this evening bringing a chance for a few storms, including the threat for a few strong to severe storms with damaging winds the main threat. Just enough moisture is expected to pool along the boundary to aid in the development of a line segment or two of a few storms. While the main threat should be damaging downbursts of wind, a few cells may produce some hail, mostly along the OK-Kansas state line region. As the front drops southward tonight, the dynamic energy will become less favorable for severe storms and the threat should quickly end. The better news with the front will be the drier low-level air mass that sticks around for the rest of the week. This sets up some very nice morning lows, with some valley spots in the 50s, while most locations will start in the lower 60s. The afternoon highs look good Wednesday with readings staying in the mid to upper 80s, but the presence of the dry air and the expanding midlevel ridge will bring more heat quickly across the state with mid to upper 90s nearing 100 Thursday through Saturday before another front nears the state this weekend. As of this hour, we're keeping this weekend’s front mostly north of the state before moving southward by Tuesday or Wednesday of next week.
We've been mostly on the hit and miss train for most of these storm chances the past few events. Some locations have experienced some rainfall while other spots have been totally dry. Those areas that keep missing out will have increasing chances for some fire weather issues by the end of the week, mostly near and west of the metro.
Thanks for reading the Tuesday morning weather discussion and blog.
Have a super great day!
