Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Oklahoma City and CAIR have welcomed the first group of Afghan refugees to Oklahoma City.

The family was met at the airport by staff members from both organizations.

Catholic Charities gave them a ride to their new home while CAIR provided welcome bags and a meal.

The gift bags included copies of the Qur'an, a prayer rug, PPE items and extra personal hygiene products. The family was also provided with clothing, most of which was donated by the community.

The meal was provided by a local Muslim restaurant.

Catholic Charities expects to welcome around 1,000 refugees to Oklahoma City and 800 more to Tulsa over the coming months.
