The Tulsa State Fair got off to a rainy start Thursday, but that didn't stop some dedicated people from throwing on a raincoat and enjoying everything the fair has to offer.
Kathy Kovar and Toni Dusinna wouldn't miss the opening day for anything, and they certainly weren't bothered by the rain.
"The best day to come is the first day of the fair," Kovar said.
The fair has a few covered pavilions and events indoors, but Brian Brazill and his family came here for the outdoor food vendors. He said everyone at the fair Thursday was in good spirits.
“It’s a good energy! We just came from this little pavilion over here and everybody is super excited to talk to you," Brazill said.
Tony Slater is a vendor at the fair. His stand selling umbrellas was particularly popular. He said he came prepared with the umbrellas because he's seen a rainy opening day at the fair in years past.
"Oh yeah, oh yeah, it’s the same thing every year," Slater said. “It rains the first three days every year.”
Despite the rain, he encourages people to still come out and take advantage of the games, food, and prizes.
“Come on out. It’s looking beautiful. The first three days, like I said, are normally rainy but it’s still sweet out here," Slater said.
Thursday was the first of the fair's 11 days.
