A Wagoner County Sheriff's deputy is being credited with saving a man who had been trapped inside his crashed pickup for more than 14 hours.

William Sieg has worked as a reserve deputy for more than 2 decades for the Wagoner County Sheriff's Office. He doesn't get paid for his service but that's not why he does it.

"I just felt like I needed to give back to the community, and I love it, I love helping people," Sieg told News on 6.

Sieg's years in law enforcement were put to use this weekend when he was asked to look for a 59-year-old man from Catoosa who went missing Saturday.

"The men and women that I work with, we find a needle in a haystack," Sieg added.

On Sunday, deputies tracked the man's cellphone to this area in Coweta off Highway 51B and 171st street. Deputies believe the man drove off the highway onto the grass. He then went through a field and into trees. Deputies say that's where the man then crashed his truck and got trapped. Sieg says after 3 hours of searching he found the man's truck deep in the trees.

"I grabbed my binoculars and saw it was a dodge pickup. As I made my way to him, I could see him hanging out of the driver's side window. His foot was caught in the steering wheel," Sieg explained.

Seig says the man had been upside down for more than 14 hours. Somehow, he was still conscious. Sieg says it's a miracle the man survived.

"Usually, the outcome is not very good, usually it's a fatality. I was at the right place at the right time I didn't do anything special," Sieg admitted.

The family says the man is still recovering.

"We are out here to protect and serve, and Sunday we got to serve," Sieg added.
