A Tulsa man is headed to federal prison for 35 years after shooting and killing a man who was hiding under a bed. Police said that killer was caught after taking police on a 100-mile-an-hour chase.

Two years later, the victim's mother shared how she remembers her son, and prays for his killer, too.

Gregory Collins' mother, Julie, said her son was her pride and joy; a kind and loving man with an amazing sense of humor. She said Collins had the biggest heart of anyone she knew.

She said she prays every single day for her son, and said she forgives and prays for the shooter, Anthony Ahaisse, too.

Prosecutors said Ahaisse was a danger to society.

They said Ahaisse put a lot of lives in danger after shooting and killing Gregory Collins and hope this prison sentence sends a strong message.

"This individual was a bad character," said acting US Attorney Clint Johnson. "He shot and killed somebody in their home and led police on a high-speed chase."

Anthony Ahaisse pleaded guilty to second degree murder after admitting he broke into Collins' home in 2019.

Ahaisse's ex-girlfriend was dating Collins. Collins heard a loud noise that night, went outside, then came running back inside and hid under a bed. The girlfriend said Ahaisse came into the bedroom and fired two shots under the bed.

Later that day, Tulsa police saw Ahaisse speeding down I-44, and when they tried to pull him over, he took off, going 100 miles an hour. When they finally arrested him, he had blood on him and the murder weapon and fought back.

"We want to make sure we secured a conviction, and a sentence that was appropriate for what he did," Johnson said.

Johnson said federal prosecutors took over the case because Ahaisse is a tribal citizen.

"It doesn't matter what the crime is," Johnson said. "If we have jurisdiction, we want to make sure the public remains safe."

Ahaisse took a plea deal. He had been convicted of accessory to murder in a separate case in 2011.

Because this is a federal case, Ahaisse will have to serve the full 35 years. His attorney didn't want to comment.
