The name Pennington runs deep in Sand Springs athletics, 55 years deep.

Sand Springs quarterback Ty Pennington is a third generation Sandite and every time he suits up and plays, it’s not just for the school but his family as well. Pennington carries his brother, sister, mother, father and even his grandfather’s legacy every time he steps on the field.

The name Pennington at Charles Page High School dates back more than 50 years when his grandfather Mike led the Sandites to their first - and so far, the only - state football title in 1966.

"It’s expected to be a good athlete if your last name is Pennington," said Sand Springs Head Coach Bobby Klnick.

Now its Ty’s turn and he’s hopeful he can earn a scholarship for the next level.

"We all knew what we had in Ty Pennington, it’s just taking a while for the rest of the state to figure it out,” Klnick said. “Colleges need to walk up and start offering this kid pretty quick.”

"I play each game like it’s my last and take every advantage that I can get and just get out there, perform each week," said Pennington.

Pennington has thrown for over 1,100 yards and 13 touchdowns this season. However, it’s who he is off the field that led Klnick to give him the ultimate compliment.

"If I had a daughter, I would let her date him," said, Klnick.

"I mean, Coach Klnick is a great guy and getting that from him, that’s pretty funny, that’s pretty cool," said Pennington.

Sand Springs faces Booker T. Washington Friday night at home in our Tulsa Tech Game of the Week.
