People are still cleaning up after an EF-1 tornado tore through the city of Coweta Sunday night. No injuries were reported from this storm.

“It could’ve been worse. It could’ve been my whole roof it could’ve been my house,” said Ahnnie Strong. “We watch y’all’s station all the time because if we didn’t, we wouldn’t ever know.”

Strong said she and her husband, Scott, were watching News on 6 last night right before the sirens went off.

“It hit and boom, that’s all it was,” said Strong.

Strong said after sheltering in place, they came out to damage in their living room.

“I’ve got debris all over my living room and trees everywhere,” said Strong.

Several homes have roof damage in Strong’s neighborhood and many tree limbs are scattered around yards.

“For the people directly in the path of it, I’m sure it was a very scary thing to have roaring down your street at you,” said Coweta City Manager Roger Kolman.

Kolman said there was damage to the Coweta Manor Nursing home and several school buildings.

He said the community really came together today to help those impacted.

“It’s great to see neighbors helping neighbors,” said Kolman. “It’s heartwarming to see all the people who live in Coweta and all the agencies that operate here in Coweta come together to solve this problem.”

Strong said even though they do have significant damage, it could’ve been a lot worse. She said she and her husband are thankful to have a strong support system in Coweta.

“I’m glad I have friends and family that care about everybody,” said Strong. “I hope it never happens again, but you never know just got to keep faith in God.”

The City of Coweta said people can drop tree limbs, branches and other green waste off at the sewer plant, on 164th Street South to the west of 305th East Avenue, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Friday or from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Saturday.

The city said they’re still looking for a place to dispose of construction debris.
