Family Of Woman Killed On Bicycle In Hit-and-Run Desperate For Answers 6 Months Later

The family of a Cherokee County woman who died after being hit by a car while she was on her bike, is desperate for answers about who was behind the wheel when the crash happened. 

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol said no arrests have been made. 

It has been more than six months since Jacklyn Dobson was hit on Highway 62, southwest of Tahlequah. Her family does not want the case to be forgotten. 

On the side of the busy highway, a cross and flowers sit in memory of Jacklyn Dobson. 

"I try to come out at least once a week,” Dobson’s grandmother, Corida Barnes, said. 

Barnes, and Dobson’s cousin, Hope Taylor, said they take time to keep their memorial looking fresh. 

"Just to keep putting the flowers out, making it still bright, like, don't let her die down, don't let it be dull and forgotten,” Taylor said. 

In March, Dobson died in the hospital after the Oklahoma Highway Patrol said she was hit while riding her bike, trying to cross Highway 62 on South 460 Road. Dobson was 24 years old. 

Troopers said at the time, the driver's car would have damage to the front, and the driver's side mirror and headlight would be missing. Six months later, OHP said it is still "diligently pursuing leads." 

"She was taken too soon,” Taylor said. 

Dobson’s eight-year-old son, Jace, is growing up without his mother. 

"She loved him so much,” Barnes said. 

With each flower and message written on their memorial, the family continues to hope for answers. 

"Please come forward,” Barnes said. “Give us some closure.”
