The Muskogee County Sheriff's Office is investigating an incident between a Braggs teacher and student.

They said the teacher is accused of grabbing a 12-year-old by the back of the neck.

The Muskogee County Sheriff's Office said a school resource officer notified them about the incident Tuesday, that happened on October 6.

Undersheriff Greg Martin said the teacher and the boy were outside with other teachers and students when the teacher was accused of grabbing the student by the back of the neck.

Now, they are trying to figure out what led up to it.

Braggs Superintendent John Pinkston sent News On 6 a statement saying district leaders were troubled to hear about the incident and that it is currently under investigation.

"I know they are puzzled by this as well and they are doing their own investigation, but it's an isolated incident, I wouldn't be alarmed whatsoever, these days these things happen and things get investigated and appropriate measures will be done," said Martin.

Martin said the District's Attorney's Office will look over the case and decide if any charges will be filed.

You can read the full statement from Pinkston below.

"We take the safety of our students as one of our top priorities. Because of this the school was troubled when it heard the allegation that a staff member put their hands around a student’s neck. The school district is currently investigating this matter and cooperating with police. Once the investigation is complete the district will take appropriate action based on the results of the investigation. The district can’t comment further because this is a confidential personnel matter."
