Nikolas Cruz, the suspect charged in the 2018 shooting in Parkland, Florida is expected to plead guilty.
Officials say Cruz will plead guilty to all charges, including 17 counts of murder, to avoid the death penalty.
"I'm happy that this process has started and we are moving forward, eventually with him pleading guilty and then the next phase starts which is going to be a long, drawn-out process. But for me and my family, we ultimately want to see that the shooter is executed," said Lori Alhadeff, whose daughter was killed in the shooting.
Cruz can officially change his plea on Wednesday.
