A southwest Oklahoma City family was shaken out of their beds early Tuesday as their home was targeted by drive-by shooting suspects.

One of the bullets hit a 51-year-old woman in the face.

Police said she was taken to OU Medical Center to be treated and was expected to make a full recovery.

About 1:30 a.m. Tuesday, Bullets ripped through the victim’s home near SW 50th and Pennsylvania Avenue. A woman sleeping in her bedroom called police after she realized she had been shot.

“For whatever reason, a vehicle pulled up in front of the residence and opened fire,” said Master Sgt. Gary Knight, Oklahoma City Police Department. “There were multiple round fired at the residence.”

Police said there were three other people inside the home who were not injured.

“Very fortunate the woman first of all wasn’t injured worse, and secondly, nobody else inside the residence was hit,” said Knight.

The drive-by shooting left holes in windows, three cars parked in the driveway, interior walls and police said several items sitting on a nightstand in the victim's bedroom had bullet holes.

Investigators collected bullet fragments at the scene. According to the police report, 16 shell casings were found in the street, just in front of the home.

Police think there may be more evidence the suspected shooters left behind.

“They will go door-to-door to see if there were any witnesses,” said Knight. “See if anyone may have surveillance video that may shed some light on why this happened.”
