According to the Norman Police Department, a bison in the road caused multiple crashes in Norman early Saturday morning.

Police say that a car was traveling westbound near the 1100 block of Highway 9 when a bison wandered into the road and was hit around 1:15 a.m.

Another vehicle managed to swerve off the road and miss the bison before it wandered into the eastbound lanes, where it was hit one more time and died at the scene.

Officers say that there were some minor injuries as a result of the crash, but nothing serious. The cars involved were totaled.

According to News 9, the bison belongs to Big Sky Ranch and the owner of the ranch, Sherry Taylor, said she owned the bison and that it was about 12 years old.

Taylor said she is grateful that the drivers were not seriously injured and that she had her son check the fence line but was unable to determine how the bison escaped.
