Man Who Approached TPD With Knife, Machete Shot By Police

Tulsa Police say officers shot a man who approached them with a machete. It happened Saturday afternoon around 3 p.m. near Apache and MLK.

Tulsa Police say officers shot a man who approached them with a machete.

It happened Saturday afternoon around 3 p.m. near Apache and MLK.

Officers say someone called 911 saying the driver crashed a pickup truck into his own home.

Police arrived to find that man, whose name has not been released, armed with an ice pick walking around the yard.

Officers say they told him to drop the pick, but he tried to break into a locked police car before going inside his home.

When officers tried to talk to the man, they say he came to the door with a knife and told officers to leave.

Police then went across the street to talk to a neighbor when the man left his house can approached them with the machete.

When the man ignored officers' commands do drop the weapon, police shot him.

Police say the man was under the influence of an unknown substance.

He had surgery and should be okay.

The department says the officers involved are on routine leave during the investigation.
