A Sperry police officer is in the hospital after being hit by a driver during a traffic stop.
Sperry police said the officer was making a traffic stop around 1:30 a.m. on Monday.
Police said the officer approached the car and the situation became hostile when the woman driving the car was uncooperative. The FBI says that's when the woman started to drive towards the officer.
At that time, shots were fired by the officer and at least one shot hit the woman, and she hit the officer with her car.
Police say the officer was sent about 10 feet after being hit, the officer is now in the hospital and is expected to recover from their injuries.
Police say after the driver hit the officer, she took off, leading to a chase.
The chase started with police on Highway 11 in Sperry and Tulsa County Sheriff’s Deputies eventually joined in.
Officers say the chase ended near Pine and Peoria when the driver’s car became disabled.
Sperry Police said the FBI is now involved because both the driver and the officer are tribal citizens.
Both the driver and the officer are in the hospital.
