Family Heartbroken After Oklahoma Coach Suddenly Dies

The family says they are heartbroken and in shock after a Green Country football coach died unexpectedly. 

His sister-in-law, Carlie David, says it didn't matter whether people knew Mike David, or Big Mike, for five minutes or five years, he made an impact on every person he met.

She says he lived and breathed football and family, and everyone is a better person for having known him. 

"When he walked into a room, the whole room lit up, you wouldn't leave the room without talking to him without being his best friend, everybody was family Big Mike," she said. 

Carlie says Big Mike died unexpectedly last week after getting a blood infection. 

"It was a shock to our whole family, it was unexcepted, so we were all just blown away by it," she said. 

Carlie says Big Mike spent more than 20 years coaching football. 

He coached at East Central and Mclain High Schools as well as rec leagues with elementary students. 

She says it was his passion. 

"It didn't matter the age group, or what it was, as long as he could be a football coach, and help another football player be better at what they do, and make it further in their football career, that's what he lived and breathed for," she said. 

She says he was a loving husband, dad and grandfather, and everyone will miss him so much. 

She says they will do everything they can to honor him. 

"Life without big Mike is definitely going to be different, and harder for all of us, but we are all going to push forward every day, knowing he is looking down on us, and his spirit is looking down on us," she said.
