The National Weather Service on Thursday confirmed a tornado hit Tulsa Wednesday night between Woodward Park and Utica Square, snapping trees and damaging buildings all the way to 31st street and County Line Road.

Near Garnett and I-44, storm damage was left behind in neighborhoods surrounding Peary Elementary School.

Two of the three stop signs at an intersection near the school were blown down during 70 miles per hour winds. The city has since put up temporary stop signs until it can make repairs. Earlier in the day, some drivers went right through the intersection, perhaps not realizing they should have stopped.

Throughout the neighborhood, there was a lot of tree damage, and with that, a lot of neighbors spent the day cleaning up.

"Just let mother nature do what she's gonna do. That's all you can do. Just live one day at a time and clean up the mess,” neighbor Ned Jensen said.

There is now a hole in the roof above a fourplex in the neighborhood. Clean-up crews helped remove things from inside that have water damage.

The daughter of a woman who lives there said her mom was inside during last night's storm, when it pierced her roof, letting rain in. While her mom is shaken up, she said she is doing OK. Just across the street, Navy veteran Ron Lindner is thankful he was with family for a birthday party during the storms, when he said two of his trees snapped onto his driveway.

"One lucky thing is we did not get our cars wrecked because our cars were gone. So the trees came down and it just fell on my driveway, didn't cause any damage there,” Lindner said.

A man who lives just across the street from Peary Elementary said he thinks some steel from one of the school buildings blew over and hit his fence, causing some damage.

No word yet from Tulsa Public Schools on whether school property was damaged in the storm.
