The deadline to claim the Advance Child Tax Credit is Monday, November 15th.
To get the first of two payments, you need to file that claim, but only if you did not file taxes this year.
If you have already filed your taxes this year, then the payment will automatically go into your bank account that you used to get your direct deposit tax return. The payment is set to go into accounts on December 15.
If you have not filed your taxes, you need to file a claim by Monday to receive the credit at getyourctc.org.
Parents with children five years old or younger can receive up to $1,800 per child. Parents with children six years and older can receive up to $1,500 per child.
Families can file for multiple credits if they have more than one child in their household.
Marcela Swenson with Tulsa Responds says an estimated 4,000 Tulsa County children are at risk of missing out on this tax incentive.
She says registration only takes about 15 minutes to complete.
“They estimate that about 50% of households will be lifted out of the poverty line if they claim this tax credit, which is huge, it’s $3,600 dollars per child, it can make an instrumental difference in these lives, Swenson said.
If you miss the Monday deadline, you can claim your full child tax credit when you file your taxes in 2022.
