Families lined up in Mustang for the Great Toy Giveaway, an event they said will make the holidays brighter for their little ones.
The Garner girls said their giveaway started as just an effort to make room for new toys for their kids by blessing families with their old toys.
“We sat in the back of our car and had a little sign and just hoped people stopped and they did. We had probably maybe 10 families came,” Cindy Garner said.
In six years, the holiday giveaway went from a Lowe's parking lot to a large toy store in front of Mustang Flowers with families showing up hours before the start time.
“It just shows you the need and we're really grateful that we can be a part of trying to help fill that need and I think just by giving other families an opportunity to donate toys and then getting to see the families that need them and giving them an opportunity to come get it really is a blessing,” Britni Garner said.
Folks waiting in line said this is necessary after such a hard year.
“To help people that need toys that can't afford them and the pandemic, the pandemic covid has hurt a lot has hurt a lot of people so it really helps that everybody can get together and do this,” people waiting for the giveaway to start said.
Donations have been collected all year to make this possible.
“We've had people from Weatherford, we've had actually different states have brought it in but it is a lot of local families, a lot of our friends, a lot of people that see it on the mustang Facebook pages,” Cindy Garner said.
The Garner girls said every year they're amazed with how the community steps forward to help families during the holidays. They said if you have any donations, you can drop them off at Mustang Flowers or message them on their Facebook page, The Great Toy Giveaway.
