Broken Arrow city leaders said the city is making significant progress despite the pandemic. During Wednesday's State of the City address, leaders gave an update on current and future projects, amongst other things.
When comparing the 2021 address to 2020, City Manager Michael Spurgeon said, during both updates, that the city is doing very well.
"I can tell you the state of our city in 5 words: Our city is truly blessed," said Spurgeon.
As of December 2021, Broken Arrow is now the 267th largest city in the country out of more than 10,000, per Spurgeon. That number is also reflected in new businesses that continue to pop up within BA city limits.
"We have new businesses that are being built all over this city. We have new homes that are springing up in all parts of the city, and we have infrastructure projects in every single place in this community."
Spurgeon explained that because city leaders chose to stay open during the pandemic, the economy is reaping the benefits.
"From the council's perspective, and my perspective, our economy is strong, our streets are safe. We have the best schools in the state. We have a quality of life that is second to none, and we continue to be recognized as a great place for private investment."
The city has accomplished a lot during his 7 years as city manager, but Spurgeon said there's still work to be done, like developing the economy even further and finishing current and future construction projects.
