Tulsa's Salvation Army is extending the deadline to adopt a child from the Angel Tree at the Woodland Hills Mall.
The new deadline is this Sunday since more than 1,000 children still haven't been chosen.
Tonya Jarvis dropped off her last carload of toys and clothes at Salvation Army on Wednesday. “I don’t need to see that present be opened. I just need to feel like I contributed and that was it. I don’t need to see the end game of it," said Jarvis.
Jarvis doesn't get the meet the angel she adopts, but she knows since she started adopting 12 years ago, she's making a difference. “Each of my kids got to pick an angel. The one that really made the biggest impact for me and I think for my kids was an angel who asked for shampoo and after that, there was no turning back," said Jarvis.
She continues to adopt more angels every year. This year Tonya took on 75 angels, and she reached that goal. Salvation Army said there are still more than 1,000 angels who haven't been adopted. “I think people are just scared about these times and so I think people aren’t jumping at the opportunity as much as they did last year just because there is so many unknowns right now," said Jenny Swyden.
Swyden said every toy and coat that is donated is bringing the job to a real person who needs a little kindness. “I want other people to keep that hope and that giving spirit and provide some Christmas for these little kids that can’t help what’s happening in the world today and just need that little special moment," said Jarvis.
