Two Oklahoma universities are joining more than two dozen schools across the country to help support Afghan refugees who are now living in the U.S.
The University of Tulsa and Oklahoma State University are among the 27 colleges and universities joining the network.
It's called the "Welcome to Campus Network."
The goal of the network is to amplify the work the schools are doing to welcome and support newly arrived Afghan refugees.
Colleges and universities in more than 30 states are working to provide scholarships, housing, community sponsorship and education to thousands of refugees and their families.
Oklahoma State University recently partnered with Catholic Charities of Eastern Oklahoma to help with the relocation and settlement of 40 Afghan families.
OSU is providing on-campus housing, English language training, transportation and food assistance.
Welcome.US CEO Nazanin Ash said universities have a large role to play in supporting the success of Afghan refugees.
Catholic Charities says right now, Tulsa is home to nearly 300 Afghan refugees and expects the number to eventually reach 800.
