Tulsa Mayor G.T. Bynum says he is looking forward to the new year and says there are some exciting things in the works that could propel Tulsa forward.

Mayor Bynum says 2021 was another challenging year because of the pandemic and staffing challenges within the Tulsa Police Department.

He says the department is seeing a wave of retirements right now and TPD is having a hard time recruiting people to work in law enforcement.

The mayor says he wants to improve the department’s numbers in the new year.

Bynum also says there is a lot of, what he calls, potentially “historic economic development prospects,” that could bring more jobs to the City of Tulsa.

“If we can land just one of several that we are working on it would be a historic advancement for Tulsa and I get excited just thinking about the possibility to bring those jobs and that kind of economic growth to our city," Bynum said.

Mayor Bynum says he is also excited about the new USA BMX Headquarters opening in January in the Greenwood District.

The city expects events to bring in 100,000 visitors in the first five years generating around $11 million.
