Thursday, a Tulsa mechanic is making a generous donation to a family in need. Lonnie Vaughan is the owner of the Car Care Clinic and donated a wheelchair-accessible van to a local family, just in time for the holidays.
This meaningful gift comes from a giving heart.
"It’s a Christmas gift to her. That is for sure. Yes it is," said Rachael Long.
Long and her mom, Lana McBee, got to see their new car for the first time Thursday. Vaughan said when someone donates a car to his business, he fixes it and gives it to a family in need.
"We live in a community that mobility is a must in meeting basic needs. We continue to be the only organization in the state of Oklahoma that meets this need at the level that we do and it’s a responsibility that we take it seriously," said Vaughan.
Long contacted Vaughan a week and a half ago looking for help. McBee was diagnosed with M.S. two years ago. She has a motorized wheelchair but hasn't been able to use it since it won't fit inside most cars. Vaughan's gift will change McBee's life.
“I think it’s quality of life and also the freedom to be able to go places and not just be stuck at home," said Long. She said the first trip they'll make in the new car is to have lunch this weekend for a girls' day.
