Employees at Union Public Schools are making sure kids have the food they need to make it through the holidays.
"Don't judge another person until you have walked in their shoes. You don't really know what a person is going through. These meals do make a difference," said Blair Baker with Union Public Schools.
There are Tulsa families who aren't as concerned about presents under the tree and families coming into town- because they are focused on their kids having enough food to eat.
"It takes a lot for a parent to ask for help- and I am sure that these people don't necessarily want to drive through this line, but they do because they have to. Some of these people absolutely have to" said Baker.
Employes at Union Public Schools understand that need and they are serving free meals from their kitchen to try and help. Schools say the need for food has always been there, but the pandemic has added to the issue.
"We are very concerned about kids, getting enough food. This crisis has been going on for a very long time," said Baker.
The hope is these meals will help parents feed their kids over Christmas break. Meals will be distributed through Wednesday so if families come all three days, they will have 2 weeks' worth of food.
You don't have to be a Union Student to pick up food- you just have to be a student in need, 18 years of age or younger.
It takes a village to raise a child- sometimes we have to let some of that village in, to make sure our kids have what they need.
"There is no shame coming through this line. We are happy to feed these kids. We are happy to make sure they are taken care of. This is for them and we will do it every day," said Baker.
