An investigation is underway at the Oklahoma County Detention Center after a detainee died Sunday morning.
According to the OCDC, 40-year-old Gabriel Yalartai was discovered attempting suicide in his cell around 4:20 a.m.
"After being discovered, staff and medical personnel began life-saving efforts. However, those efforts were unsuccessful," said OCDC Director of Communications Mark Opgrande in a release.
Yalartai was booked into the detention center on December 8, 2020.
The State Medical Examiner’s Office will make a final determination as to the cause of death.
