The Oklahoma Caring Vans are helping fight the flu this virus season through the program’s nine mobile, immunization units.
The vans are a part of The Oklahoma Caring Foundation’s efforts to provide free, preventative services to children, from ages six weeks to 18 years.
The flu season typically runs from October through April, with different strains occurring each year.
According to the Centers for Disease Control, children are at a greater risk for flu-related health issues and commonly require medical care.
The Caring Vans have been traveling throughout the state and are expected to provide nearly 9,000 flu vaccinations to Oklahoma children.
The first Tulsa Caring Vans event is Thursday, January 6 from 4:30p to 5:30p at The Salvation Army on 102 N. Denver Ave.
The second scheduled date is Tuesday, January 18 from 4p to 6p at the Cecelia Clinton Educare UMA Tulsa on 3110 E. Seminole St.
In addition to flu shots, the Caring Vans supply all immunizations, which are required by Oklahoma law, in order for children to be enrolled in school or childcare.
Vaccines are given on a first-come, first-serve basis. Parents or guardians must provide current shot records and completed paperwork for each child immunized.
