Tulsa Mayor GT Bynum gave his annual report on Wednesday, highlighting big economic development projects this year.
Tulsa's Authority for Economic Opportunity said there are two big parts to 2022. One focuses on big, multi-year plans, and the other focuses on better supporting small businesses.
Executive Director of the Tulsa Authority for Economic Opportunity Kian Kamas said those big plans and projects - like the development of the Evans-Fintube site, will take off this year.
Things like a grocery store downtown at the old PAC parking lot, and a multi-use building in the market district take years to plan - but 2022 is set to be the year ground is broken.
"A lot of these big projects take time to get going, so it’s exciting and fun to think about having so many getting off the ground at once," she said.
Each new building brings new jobs.
"In 2022 you’ll see us step up our efforts on that front," Kamas said.
But the city isn't forgetting existing employers.
“You pair those big transformational projects with smaller efforts to keep things moving," Kamas said. “We don’t ignore the fact that businesses are still struggling, and we keep thinking about how do we provide the proper support.”
Kamas says a key point in the city's strategic plan this year is more resources to grow and support small businesses.
