The staff at animal welfare said it's been a long two months.
"It always it hard for us when we have to shut our doors," said Kristin Barney, Tulsa Animal Welfare. Now they're ready to see their furry friends find their forever homes.
"Nothing feels better than just opening the doors and helping them find loving homes," said Barney.
2 months ago, the shelter closed its doors to stop an outbreak of canine distemper virus. That's when the community jumped in to help.
"We have just great people in this community who have been working diligently over the last two months to help us address the outbreak," said Barney.
Best Friends Animal Society, the Humane Society of Tulsa, Tulsa SPCA and many more organizations provided resources so this shelter could open again.
During this time, the shelter will waive all adoption fees for available dogs, which includes microchipping, the cost of spaying and neutering, and age-appropriate vaccinations.
Adoptions are by appointment only and all adoptions will resume at normal costs starting next week.
Now that the animals are safe, the shelter staff looks forward to what's next.
"It will absolutely be a big victory when we see these guys find their forever homes," said Barney.
Veterinarians also want to make sure the pets stay happy and healthy for years to come.
"We have stopped the outbreak in our facility, but distemper virus is still out there in the community, as it always has been, and that really just highlights the importance of making sure that your animals are up to date," said David Bailey, Shelter Veterinarian, Tulsa Animal Welfare.
