Tulsa firefighters are reminding people about the dangers of space heaters following a deadly fire that broke out just west of D=downtown Tulsa on Thursday.

The Tulsa Fire Department says the fire near Archer and Quanah was likely caused by a space heater.

Experts say if you are going to use a space heater, you should plug it directly into the wall and keep it on a hard floor surface, three feet away from anything that can burn. They also say it should never be your primary source of heat.

"Any heating appliance can catch your home on fire and one in five home fires is caused by heating equipment," said Andy Little from the Tulsa Fire Department. "So all those appliances, fireplaces, stoves, anything can cause a fire."

The exact cause of Thursday’s deadly house fire is still under investigation.
