Newly Renovated Tulsa Church Studio Opens Doors To Public

The wait is finally over as the newly renovated Church Studio in Tulsa opens its doors to the public.

Five and a half years ago, Tulsan Teresa Knox had a dream of renovating the Church studio on 3rd street.

The Church was built in 1915. In 1972, Leon Russell bought it and turned it into a recording studio.

This is one of only a few studios that are on the national register of historic places; others being Motown and Capital Records.

Teresa and her team added on to the south part of the property to include a gallery off the main entrance. That gallery will showcase rotating exhibits from their 5 thousand piece archive.

There is a brand new recording studio, control room, and green rooms. The space can also be a venue to rent for special occasions.

Teresa also built-in a new freight elevator to make it easier for musicians and bands to move heavy equipment in and out.

Kenny Loggins recently played here for a small crowd and there will soon be regular tours for the public.

New parking was also added and a 500 pound sculpture of Leon Russel stands out on the front of the church.

Teresa has been collecting Leon Russel memorabilia since childhood and said this project has been so incredibly special to her. She can't wait for
