Sunny and pleasantly cool temperatures kick off Martin Luther King Jr. Day, but winter weather could make a return midweek.
Here are the details from News On 6 Meteorologist Alan Crone:
Above normal temps quickly return for the first half of the week before another strong cold front rolls across the area Wednesday morning bringing frigid temps to the state through the end of the week. The frontal passage Wednesday morning will support a very small window for some drizzle or light mix, mostly across southeastern OK and western Arkansas directly behind the southward moving cold front. This will be a low chance and only for a short period from Wednesday morning to midday. Temps will be well below normal for the 2nd half of the week before slowly moderating some for the weekend before another system stays south of the state.
Temps will start in the 20s on Monday morning and rise into the lower 50s in the afternoon with sunshine and relatively light wind. Tuesday morning starts in the mid to upper 30s. Daytime highs should reach the lower to mid-60s Tuesday afternoon with mostly sunny sky and gusty southwest winds from 10 to 25 mph. Fire spread rates across the western third of the state may reach high levels while locations east of I-35 will remain elevated. These environmental conditions will be even more supportive of fire spread across the far western third of both OK and Kansas Tuesday.
As the front moves across the area early Wednesday morning, strong north winds will follow with temps dropping from the upper 30s and lower 40s to near freezing midday and afternoon. North winds from 20 to 30 mph will create low wind chill values throughout the day. Thursday morning will start in the lower to mid-teens with highs only in the mid to upper 20s. Wind chill values Thursday morning will be in the single digits to subzero during the early morning hours. Friday also supports bitterly cold morning temps in the teens before reaching the mid to upper 30s by the afternoon.
Temperatures should reach the mid-40s Saturday and upper 40s and lower 50s Sunday.
Thanks for reading the Monday morning weather discussion and blog.
Have a super great day!
