City of Tulsa leaders said they plan on using every truck available to plow snow and salt the roads for Wednesday's winter storm. Crews started working at the city's salt yard at 2 a.m. Wednesday morning to get salt into trucks and out on the main roads to get ahead of any icy patches that may develop early on.

City crews are operating on an “all hands on deck“ plan working 12-hour shifts.

They said in a news conference that the plan is to put out salt to begin with and then switch over to plowing and putting down brine when the snow starts. City leaders say they are prepared with 11,000 tons of salt ready to go.

The city has more than 60 spreader trucks and plows with 210 employees treating the main roads and bridges, then switching over to residential areas.

Tulsa Street Maintenance Manager Tim McCorkell said they are hitting their treatment plan hard to keep Tulsans as safe as possible.

“We are ready for this event coming in,” McCorkell said. “It looks like it’s going to be more snow than ice we hope it stays that way, ice is not our friend.”

The city is urging people to stay home if they do not have to be out, but if you do have to be on the roads then make sure you stay far away from snowplows and take your time while driving.

“They could hit a manhole, or chunks of ice, or hard chunks of snow and it could go off to the side it could cause damage to your car if you’re trying to go around a vehicle as they are plowing,” McCorkell said.

Officials are asking everyone to be patient with their crews as they work tirelessly the next couple of days to make sure the roads are as safe as possible. They will first plow one lane on every road and then get multiple lanes cleared as they move through the city.
