School bus driver shortages are not a problem unique to Broken Arrow.

Several other school districts in the area are looking for bus drivers, including Tulsa, Union, Owasso and Sand Springs.

This comes as some bus drivers have had to combine routes and fill in extra hours to get students to and from school. Some districts are also offering extra bonuses and benefits to encourage people to apply.

The Department of Public Safety recently removed a long-standing requirement when it comes to CDL licensing in an effort to ease the bus driver shortage.

The department is now issuing licenses that waive the pre-trip vehicle inspection skills test.

The hiring event in Broken Arrow will run from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Monday at the Performing Arts Center.

People who are interested are asked to bring a copy of their driver’s license and a resume if possible.
