Gas prices around Tulsa have been on the rise.
Leslie Gamble with AAA says events around the world and right here at home are to blame for the increase.
The average price for a gallon of gas in Tulsa is $3.18.
According to AAA, gas prices in Tulsa are on average a few cents more than they are in the rest of the state.
This is a time when experts say gas prices would typically be on the decline, after holiday travel wraps up. However, the pandemic has altered people’s driving habits and has caused fluctuations in demand.
Gamble says two things are mainly to blame for the recent increase.
"The blustery winter weather that gripped a large part of our nation last week, and political tensions between Russia and Ukraine. The weather impact was related to the cold, and an increase in the demand for heating oil," Gamble said.
She also has some tips on how you can conserve gas while on the road.
“You want to keep your speed leveled off as you drive, not a lot of quick starts and braking, so you can have the most efficiency with the gas you have," Gamble said.
She adds that the rest of the nation has also seen an increase in gas prices and that Oklahoma has the fourth-lowest prices in the country.
