The City of Tulsa is being sued over a deadly crash that happened in May 2020.

The crash killed Nicole Underwood, 33, and her daughter, two-year-old Troyanna Lane.

The victim's family is not only suing the city, but two other men involved in the crash: Troy Lane and Javier Yanez.

Both Nicole and her daughter were in Troy Lane's car when the crash happened on May 11, 2020.

Tulsa Police said Lane stole some beer from a convenience store and took off.

An officer chased him, but Lane did not stop.

The chase ended near 51st and Yale when Lane crashed into two vehicles, one of which was being driven by Javier Yanez, the other person the victim's family is suing.

According to the lawsuit, the victim's family said Troy Lane, Javier Yanez, and Tulsa Police all acted negligently, which caused Nicole and Troyanna to die.

The lawsuit goes on to say that Lane and Yanez had a duty to look out for hazards and dangers on the road to avoid a crash but failed.

It also said the police department had a responsibility to train and supervise its officers to obey state traffic laws but failed.

The lawsuit went on to say that since the officer chose to pursue Lane despite the hazard it posed to other drivers, that officer contributed to their deaths.

Prosecutors charged Lane with two counts first-degree manslaughter. Yanez, who was also a victim, was not charged.
