Broken Arrow Police Address Rumors Surrounding Video Of Violent Attack

Broken Arrow Police are trying to stop the spread of rumors and misinformation surrounding a viral video showing two teenagers fighting.

Officers said the rumor that one of the boys died isn't true and the fight didn't happen on school grounds.

The video was taken about a month ago at a Broken Arrow Apartment Complex.

"The video depicts a non-fatal assault that was very brutal in nature," said BAPD Officer Chris Walker. "We initially investigated it on January 18th when it happened. And after that we were able to secure an arrest warrant and make an arrest on it."

Since it's spread online, the video has been surrounded by rumors - the worst of them being that the victim died.

“You know the rumors are circulating that someone died, and we want to dispel that," Walker said.

Walker said the department has been flooded with concerned callers.

He said the problem is the people who aren't calling - and are continuing to spread misinformation.

“Something that took place three weeks ago starts spreading 36 hours ago and now it’s gone semi-viral, at least in the microenvironment, in the Broken Arrow area," Walker said. "It’s also a cautionary tale of the bad side of social media at times. Don’t just blatantly jump at misinformation and add to it.”

Because the suspect is a juvenile, officers are not releasing his name.

They are also not sharing any additional details about the victim.
