Two programs designed to help people with getting groceries will be accepted at a popular Broken Arrow farmers market this spring. Organizers say the project has been years in the making and will help out a new audience.
The Rose District Farmers Market attracts thousands of people on Saturdays in the spring and summer. SNAP and Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program (SFMNP) vouchers will be accepted this year to help more people get access to fresh food.
Nicole Orcutt, coordinator of the event, says this has been a focus for the city after getting requests from attendees. On days the market is operating, a table will be set up for people to exchange vouchers for tokens to use at eligible stands.
“We’ve seen an influx in those that are applying for both SNAP and the Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program,” said Orcutt.
The 19th season of the farmers market starts on April 2 and will go on until the end of October.
