Tulsa Public Schools is making sure its students have enough food to eat while school is out for Mid-Winter break.

School leaders will be handing out grab-and-go meals on Friday morning.

Leaders at TPS say they are prepared to give out thousands of meals, all to make sure students continue to get the nutrition they need during the break.

TPS will be serving seven days worth of snacks and supper meals for free to students ages 18 and under.

The meals will be available for pickup today from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the former Grimes Elementary building off East 56th Street.

TPS Community Outreach Coordinator, Heather Steele, says the initiative started in 2020 as a way to connect with students during the pandemic and show students they care about them outside of the classroom.

"I think it's incredibly vital that we are setting that precedent that we are going to provide healthy nutrition for our students regardless if school is in session or not," Steele said. "If we are able to do that, we would love to help our community in any way."

Parents or guardians can pick up the meals without the student being present, but need to make sure they have their student's identification before coming.
