Tulsa Botanic Garden Offered President's Day Deal

The Tulsa Botanic Garden on Monday offered half-off admission to anyone with the same last name as any U.S. President. Aside from the wind, it was a great day to have the same last name as a president at the Tulsa Botanic Garden.

The garden is usually closed Mondays, but opened up for the holiday, with a new deal.

Only a special few could take advantage -- a presidential last name meant half off for a few people, but not Shyenne Pyppin.

"My last name used to be Wilson. My maiden name was Wilson,” Pyppin said.

"Hicks, H-I-C-K-S,” Katherine Hicks said as she spelled her name for an interview.

While there are not any presidents with the last name Hicks, Katherine recalled the first president she remembers in her lifetime.

"I think before Hoover. I can't remember who served just before him,” Hicks said.

At 95 years young, she came to the garden with her son and daughter-in-law in hopes of seeing tulips.

"A lot of green starting to pop up,” Tulsa Botanic Garden CEO Chuck Lamson said.

Lamson said in about three weeks the garden will be in full bloom.

With presidents on a lot of people’s mind Monday, Katherine showed us that plants and presidents may actually have something in common.

"I think they were all very interesting in their [own] way,” Hicks said about the presidents in her lifetime so far.

The Tulsa Botanic Garden is open Tuesday-Sunday from 12:00-5:00 p.m.
