Some Tulsa public students are getting a special field trip to the Discovery Lab at the Gathering Place on Tuesday.
The idea is for the students to get a hands-on experience. Students have an hour of classroom time upstairs and then come down here to learn about a wide variety of things from weaving to learning about rocks and how erosion happens.
Third graders from Tulsa Public Schools are the first from the district to visit the Discovery Lab for a field trip. All students in grades kindergarten through sixth grade will have a chance. Caitlin Gibbons is one of the Discovery Lab educators and said they’re planning specific learning activities for the kids depending on which grade level they’ll have to visit.
Caitlin Gibbons, Discovery Lab Educator: “But it’s really exciting because it’s our first day with Tulsa Public Schools, which was the whole point of our whole partnership. We haven’t had to get them yet because of COVID-19 and all sorts of things. So it’s just really exciting in general to have them here today.”
News On 6's Mallory Thomas has more from some of the students about what they learned at the Discovery Lab, coming up at 4 p.m.
