Sunshine and warm temperatures continue on Wednesday ahead of a cold front that could impact your weekend.
Here are the details from News On 6 Meteorologist Alan Crone:
Another beautiful weather day is expected across all of Oklahoma as afternoon highs reach the mid to upper 70s, near 80 with abundant sunshine and southwest winds near 10 to 18 mph. A surface ridge of high pressure located southeast of the area will continue to prohibit the return of low-level moisture, but Friday into the weekend, the trajectory brings moisture back into the state as a series of disturbances near the area. The result will be a chance for a few storms Saturday to the east with critically high fire danger issues to the west. The main system moves across the area Sunday with the better chance of showers and storms as a surface front moves across the region. The timing of the front will determine the potential for any strong to severe storms. Currently, the higher chances for any strong to severe storms will be slightly south of the I-40 corridor. Colder air is likely to follow the frontal passage Sunday with a notable change for a few days early next week. Data this morning suggest some lingering precipitation may be possible Monday morning as colder air arrives. This potential for some light wintry precip will be monitored over the next few runs for Monday.
The fire spread rates will slowly increase across the state through the end of the week as gusty south winds return. Higher wind speeds Friday will be offset with increasing humidity. A dry line is expected to surge across the state Saturday. Locations near and west of Tulsa will experience near critically high fire danger while locations near and east of the Tulsa metro will have a slight chance for a few storms. The layer of warm air aloft (the CAP) may suppress thunderstorm activity, but a few storms would be possible Saturday afternoon to the east. Higher chances arrive Sunday as the main system and front nears the state. The timing of this system continues to have differences, but we think storm chances will increase, including the potential for a few strong to severe storms near and south of I-40. Colder air arrives Sunday morning to midday north but will not enter southeastern Ok until later in the day. Colder weather should prevail for the early part of next week. We’re finished with winter just yet.
Thanks for reading the Wednesday morning weather discussion and blog.
Have a super great day!
