A Tulsa woman is offering courses and materials to help educate minorities about building financial wealth.

Ray'Chel Wilson said she's trying to break down economic barriers and systemic issues to build up a new generation of minority entrepreneurs.

“Why don’t we build ourselves? Why don’t we empower ourselves? Why don’t we educate ourselves?,” said Wilson.

Ray'Chel Wilson is a teacher at KIPP Public School who noticed some disparities in the classroom.

“Seniors couldn’t pay $60 for a cap and gown set, so seeing those disparities and seeing parents need more information on things like how to file taxes. Things that seem to be basic but aren’t often taught to us,” said Wilson.

Wilson said some statistics show Black American wealth could fall to zero by end of the century. That's why she created Raise the Bar Investments.

It's a low-cost financial literacy service to educate minority communities. She writes books, offers courses and one-on-one sessions to help people take steps to grow their money.

“So whether you are booking a one-on-one investing readiness consultation with myself as a certified financial education instructor, I’m all about teaching you the things you need to know as well as how to be a successful investor," said Wilson.

Ebony Jones is one of the clients at Raise the Bar. She said two years ago, she didn't know anything. Now she knows about investments, savings and retirements.

“I might not have it right now, but just know, in 20 years I’m going to be set, I’m going to be good because I made sure I built a foundation for my family. That is – that is big for me,” said Jones.

She said learning about finances may seem scary at first -- but it's an investment in your future.

"Start. Just start having a conversation with your family, with yourself, with your kids, so we can break the stigma and we can change the narrative," said Jones.
