The pandemic is slowing down but people all over Green country are still having a tough time paying for rent and more with the increase in inflation. Many groups want people to know there is still federal money available to help.

It's been a tough time for many people who rent. Laura Evans said that's an understatement for her. Laura is getting help applying for rental assistance money, after she was let go from work a few months ago.

"I got terminated due to COVID, not enough hours, on 18th of January," she said.

Walker is also going through a rough patch. He said his back injury prevents him from working and he's behind on rent and he needs to provide for his four kids.

"I'm trying to do everything I can to get caught up and back to work," said David Walker.

"We have rental assistance, we help with utilities as well help with insurance and food banks," said Chelsea Butler.

Butler works with Housing Solutions. She and Restore Hope ministries and Community Cares partners are helping people apply for federal money that is still available.

"The funds available will catch up past rent and pay up to three months to get them back on track," said Heidi Blackshaw, with Lynco Properties which owns properties all over Green Country.

That is money you don't have to pay back. Property supervisor Heidi Blackshaw has gone door to door to tell people it's available and to encourage them to apply. The help means everything to Laura.

"Luckily, my roommate works for a big company and can kind of pay, his had to take out loans to help us cover rent, but I just started a new job," Laura said.

David urges people to speak up if they need help because lot of people right now are in the same situation.

"I have problems asking for help and this has been an ordeal, but if you're struggling, get in contact with somebody," David said.

There's another rent assistance event scheduled for next Tuesday, March 22 from 9am-11am at Urban Oaks @ 51.
