A Tulsa band just finished performing at South by Southwest! Bands from all over the country compete for a spot in the festival. The bandmates say they're thrilled to make the cut!
"It is a triple threat of a festival, and everyone wants to play in it," said Rusty Rowe, with Bandelier.
SXSW attracts unique, up and coming bands in the country---and Tulsans were part of the movement this year.
"Our first show was on a Tuesday afternoon and the place was packed! Everyone was so excited to hear music. I don't know if it was because the last two years, we haven't had the chance to see live music," said Rowe.
Bandelier was started in Tulsa, by Tulsans. It is made up of six, core members and extra musicians join the crew, depending on the gig.
"It is almost like a brand-new band every single show," said Rowe.
They have a unique sound. "It is like folk-rock, and it has a cinematic feel to it," said Rowe, "He {Ryan} will come in with the lyrics and the chords and an idea of how that song is supposed to feel and then we flesh out our individual parts from there."
A sound and love of music comes through each performance- regardless of the obstacles the band faced along the way.
"At one point, the PA system went down completely and we just grabbed a couple of amps and plugged our mics in, and we played it as if we were doing a house show. Everybody loved it!" said Rowe.
They just finished two days of performing in Austin and slowly- the reality of their latest accomplishment is sinking in!
"It was just an amazing once and a lifetime experience and hopefully it is not once and a lifetime," said Rowe.
This has been a huge year for Bandelier they released their new album, just played SXSW and were asked to play Mayfest and Guthrie Green.
