A strong cold front has moved across northeastern Oklahoma early this morning bringing gusty northwest winds, falling temperatures, and blustery weather across the area.

Previous Story: Tracking Severe Storms Overnight Across Oklahoma

The main upper-level storm system will slowly move away from our area this morning, but a few showers and areas of rain will remain possible for the next few hours. Mostly cloudy and chilly weather is likely today with afternoon temperatures remaining in the upper 40s. A few locations to the west may see some sun breaks this afternoon with highs rebounding into the 50s.

Clouds are expected to clear from the west to east overnight allowing temperatures to drop into the 30s early Saturday morning. Saturday afternoon features sunshine, southwest winds at 10 to 20 mph, and afternoon highs in the upper 60s and lowers 70s. Strong south wind returns Sunday with highs rebounding into the mid-70s. The strong winds, drying vegetation, and relatively low humidity during the afternoon will aid in rapid-fire spread rates once again across the area.

A powerful upper-level storm system is organizing to our west and will slowly move across the southern plains early next week.

Strong southerly flow across Texas and Oklahoma will provide thunderstorm chances Monday, Monday night, and part of Tuesday. Some of the storms Monday could become strong to severe, but higher severe weather parameters seem to be positioned across the Red River southward into Texas. Most of our immediate area will be primed for pockets of moderate to occasionally heavy rainfall early next week.

This will be beneficial for our drought and drying conditions, yet the possibility exists for a few locations of locally heavy rainfall that may result in localized flooding. The main upper system may not totally clear our area until Tuesday night until Wednesday. While our higher probability will be Monday afternoon and Monday night, we’ll need to continue some probabilities for part of Tuesday, and even early Wednesday morning. As the system finally ejects away from the area, cool weather returns for the middle of the week.

Thanks for reading the Friday morning weather discussion and blog.

Have a super great day!
