Girls Scouts Wrap Up Cookie Season With 'Cookies For A Cause'

If you're still craving Girl Scout Cookies, you're in luck! This is the last weekend to order them.

You can also donate a box to the people who receive them, it means more than just a sweet treat. There's still time to get your favorite cookie or make someone else's day with a box. So far, 14,000 boxes have been donated through Cookies for a Cause.

Leaders with the Girl Scouts of Eastern Oklahoma say that's more than half of the goal, which is 20,000 boxes to donate. One of the main recipients of Cookies for a Cause is the Blue Star Mothers. Tulsa Chapter President Saundra Bixler says each month, the organization sends freedom boxes, or care packages, to deployed service members around the world. She says it's made possible by community donations and a big part is from the Girl Scout cookies. 

Bixler says during her daughter's first deployment to Afghanistan, several troops messaged her asking for specific cookies and she delivered them.

 "When you're deployed and you are away from your family and your friends and your community that you're familiar with, life can be a little bit mundane. It's harder to keep morale up within the troops. And so having something as simple as a box of cookies from the Girl Scouts is very much a troop morale booster,” Bixler said. 

Bixler says it's a way to remind our heroes of the home.
