Jury selection began for the trial of David Ware on Monday, the man accused of shooting and killing Tulsa Police Sergeant Craig Johnson.
Ware is also accused of shooting Officer Aurash Zarkeshan, who survived.
Tulsa County District Attorney Steve Kunzweiler says the process for choosing this jury will be more in-depth than for other trials. He said if Ware is found guilty of killing Sergeant Johnson, Ware could be sentenced to life in prison, life without the possibility of parole or death.
"The first focus is just finding that group of jurors who can qualify to actually give consideration to those punishment options, but in particular the death penalty, because not every murder case do we go for the death penalty," said Tulsa County District Attorney Steve Kunzweiler.
Jury selection is expected to last about two weeks.
