Many Hominy High School students are upset after district leaders fired the popular men's head basketball coach. Some students were so upset they walked out of the school in protest. Parents of students in the Hominy School District addressed their concerns at tonight's School Board Meeting but students wanted to make sure their voices were also heard.

Many of the Hominy High Bucks are heartbroken and baffled after the school district fired Coach Caleb Branscum. Dozens of high school students staged a walkout today during sixth period demanding answers from the school.

"I want answers badly. We all do. That's why we're out here," said Jaxon Woods, Sophomore. "Hopefully, we can get him back in that spot," said Justin Maker, Sophomore.

"They didn't tell any of us why they did it or anything. It's just they want to do something different I guess," said Shaley Boyd, Senior. "I just feel like him losing his position for no reason was a really hard thing on the whole school and the whole community. Especially his boys," said Jaylan Perigo, Sophomore.

Many students said Branscum was their favorite Buck in the building.

"He's such a likeable guy. He's such a nice guy. He's a good teacher," said Woods. "He was a father figure. He is a very nice man. He's probably one of the best coaches we've had in years," said Maker. "He would check up on me all the time," said Boyd. "Every single day he comes in and all he does is have a smile on his face," said Perigo.

Jaylan Perigo who is Coach Branscum's niece said she hurts for her uncle. "He has so much integrity and he didn't deserve this at all. Anyone would be upset to lose something that they love. Especially whenever they have bonded with all these kids and made relationships with all these kids," said Perigo.

Students hope their actions cause the district to re-consider the decision. "I don't want to play for anyone else," said Perigo.

News On 6 asked the Superintendent's Office why Branscum was dismissed, and were told we would hear back after the walk out. We haven't heard anything since. Coach Branscum said he doesn't have a comment on the situation at this time but is grateful to us for covering his students.
