Heated Argument Inside Car Allegedly Leads To NE OKC Deadly Shooting

A fight inside a car on Thursday led to a deadly shooting on the northeast side of the city, according to Oklahoma City police officials. The violent gun attack also played out in front of two passengers, a young child and a mother.  

According to court documents, Aron Jones, 29, admitted to investigators there was a heated argument and he shot 32-year-old William Jones three to four times. 

Neighbors near northeast 24th street and Miramar Boulevard reported hearing gunshots just after 7 p.m. 

“I called my brother to talk to him on the phone,” said Craig McDaniel, witness. “I heard some shooting. Pop, pop, pop, pop.”   

Craig McDaniel said he ran to the front door to see what was going on and saw a patrol car drive by in a hurry. An officer was in the area when he too heard the gunshots. 

“When he drove to that intersection he found a car there,” said Msgt. Gary Knight, Oklahoma City Police Department. “There was a deceased person inside the vehicle, that person appeared to be shot to death.”  

Police said Jones died at the scene. The alleged shooter remained standing near the victim's body when police arrived. 

“He was standing by the door of the car and a young lady got out with her child and she was screaming,” said McDaniel. “Police told him get your hands up, get out of the car, put the gun down.”   

Investigators learned the two men, woman and young child were in the SUV together when a fight broke out between the accused shooter and victim. Jones told police the victim threatened his life and admitted to shooting him several times. But police said the suspect's statement did not match evidence at the scene. 

“Investigators are still trying to piece together what happened on it,” said Knight. “That’s going to be part of the investigation as time goes by.” 

Knight said the woman and child were not harmed during the shooting.
